Welcome to this virtual open lecture on military culture and organizational change, with Professor Victoria M Basham from Cardiff University, United Kingdom.

Victoria Basham is an internationally recognized scholar of critical military studies. Her work explores how war, and war preparedness, shape people’s daily lives and how daily life can, in turn, influence and facilitate war and other geopolitical outcomes. The title of her lecture is: "Adaptive Forces? How does Military Culture Inhibit, Manage, and Engender Organizational Change?”

Her research examines how gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, and social class factors influence the decision-making, usage, and continuation of military force, with a specific focus on liberal democratic societies. In the address, she will share insights from her extensive research on military culture and organizational change in the British Armed Forces for the last 20 years. The lecture will address questions of positionality, critical analysis, and research methods in the production of knowledge on militaries.

The lecture is delivered as a keynote address for the NATO S&T workshop “Understanding of Military Culture to Support Organizational Change: Systems Approaches, Critical Analyses, and Innovative Research Methods".
