Entry requirements
Passed courses of at least 180 credits that include
and knowledge corresponding to English 6 (English B).
- at least 7,5 credits in the field of Defence, Crisis management and Security,
- written thesis project including of at least 15 credits,
and knowledge corresponding to English 6 (English B).
Course content and structure
The aim of this course is to deepen the student´s understanding of the system perspectives that may be used to understand, analyze and develop concepts for total defence.
The scope of the course covers sociotechnical system perspectives, principled concepts, and analyses of concepts for total defence.
The course is a literature study-based course conducted via distance-guided literature studies. Teaching is performed with written instructions guiding the student through a combination of literature studies and solving an applied task related to the course theme. The applied task is solved by the student by working with the areas of knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes defined in the course's learning objectives.
The core of the course assignment is to apply systems thinking and systems perspectives with the aim of understanding and analyzing total defense concepts.

- from a critical scientific approach problematize the relation between the actual suitability of a concept for total defence and the simplified model of the concept resulting from analysis taking a system perspective.
Examination formats
The course is examined through a written unsupervised assignment.
The examiner may decide to request supplementation in order to achieve a passing grade.
Examination papers submitted after the closing date will not be graded unless special circumstances exist that are acceptable to the examiner.
Supplementation shall be submitted no later than five working days after the result and supplemental task for the examination in question have been notified, unless special circumstances exist that are acceptable to the examiner.
Grading
Grades are awarded on a three-grade scale: Pass with destinction (VG), Pass(G) and Fail (U). Assessment criteria will be published at the start of the course.
A pass(G) requires a pass(G) for the written unsupervised assignment.
A pass with destinction (VG) requires a pass with destinction (VG) for the written unsupervised assignment.
There is no limit to the total number of examination opportunities.

Transitional provisions
When a course is no longer provided or when the content of a course has been significantly altered, the student retains the right to be examined in accordance with this course syllabus once per term during a three-term period.
Other regulations
The course cannot be included in a degree that includes another course with content that fully or partially corresponds to the content of this course.
If the student has a decision from the Swedish Defence University stating the need for extra pedagogical support because of a functional disability, the examiner may decide on alternative examination forms for the student.
On completion of the course, an evaluation will be conducted under the auspices of the course director. This evaluation will form the basis for any changes to the course.
