Priscyll Anctil Avoine receives international award for community engagement

Priscyll Anctil Avoine, Associate Senior Lecturer at the Department of War Studies, has been awarded the International Studies Association's FTGS Early Career Award for Community Engagement.

The award recognises a feminist scholar early in their career for innovative community engagement.

“This award is significant because it reaffirms the importance of co-constructing knowledge – and that this is possible in an academia growingly neoliberalized and confronting a significant backlash – of militant research”, says Priscyll Anctil Avoine, and continues:

“The award shows not only the possibility but above all, the centrality of building translocal networks in feminist security studies. It also shows that in International Studies and War Studies, we can bring political commitment as well as art-based and innovative methods while producing sound and rigorous research that is both policy-relevant and community-oriented.”

The award citation highlights, among other things, her work in building community-grounded research, her contribution to developing creative methods both within and outside academia, and her ability to bring researchers and activists together in collaborative projects and networks.
