Kersti Larsdotter is Associate Professor of War Studies at the Department of War Studies and Military History. She serves as chair of the Civil Wars and Military Interventions (CWAMI) research group, and is the director of studies for the PhD Programme in War Studies.
Previously, Larsdotter was Associate Professor of Military Strategy at the Norwegian Defence Command and Staff College, Norwegian Defence University College. She has also been a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University, a visiting fellow at the Changing Character of War Centre, Pembroke College, University of Oxford, a guest researcher at Department of Security Studies and Criminology, Macquarie University, a research scholar at the Security Studies Program, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a guest researcher at the Department of Civil-Military Relations, Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies.
Her main research interests are military strategy and the utility of force; the dynamics, nature and conduct of war, particularly civil wars and different forms of military interventions; and the development of knowledge about war and conflict. Her current research is focused on the utility of military assistance as a strategic tool, as well as on the transnational dynamics of civil wars.
Larsdotter holds a PhD in Peace and Development Research from the University of Gothenburg, a MA in Peace and Conflict Research from Uppsala University, a BA in History of Religion from Uppsala University and a BSc in International Relations from the University of Gothenburg.
