About Leena

Engelsk beskrivning om dig själv
Dr Leena Vastapuu is Assistant Professor of War Studies at the Swedish Defence University. Her research concentrates on gender, peace and security in war and its aftermath, with a particular interest on marginalised groups such as child and female soldiers. Leena is the author of ‘Liberia's Women Veterans: War, Roles and Reintegration’ (Zed Books 2018), as well as the editor-in-chief of the Kosmopolis journal. Recently, Leena has expanded her geographical focus to the Nordics by investigating preparation for war and militarisation in Finland and Sweden, as well as by being among the key members to establish Feminisms and Wars Community, with funding from Nordforsk.

In 2024 and 2025, Leena will also work part-time at the "Lessons from the Pandemic Consortium" (PAKO) at the University of Turku, providing the first comprehensive overview of the pandemic crisis in Finland. PAKO pays particular attention on high-level crisis management, societal resilience and maps out gaps in existing research.
