CC Licenses

When you publish with open access, you often have to choose a CC license that regulates how your publication may be used by others.

Publications published by SEDU are recommended to be provided with a CC license (see, rules for internal publications published at SEDU Publish -in Swedish).

In academic contexts, the CC-BY license is most often used, which allows publications to be read, shared and modified (e.g. translated) freely. This license is also recommended by the major Swedish and European research funders. Read more about CC licenses on the Creative Commons website.

Below is a summary of how users are allowed to use publications that are under different licenses:

  • CC-BY
(free to read, share, modify and republish, even for commercial purposes provided that the original source is referenced
  • CC-BY-ND
(free to read and share, including for commercial purposes provided the original source is cited)
  • CC-BY-NC
(free to read, share, modify and republish, except for commercial reuse provided that the original source is referenced)
  • CC-BY-NC-ND
(free to read and share, excluding commercial reuse provided the original source is referenced)
